In the play-list above, we see Jack Fresco talking about the Venus Project focused on the benefits of high technology in our life. I have done my criticism to the Zeitgest Movement in this article. I a summary I found their ideas very interesting but I expressed my disagreement to a few statements I saw in Peter Joseph’s documentary “The Zeitgeist Movement”. The most important was the lack of an appropriate targeted action towards the desired goal. Nevertheless, we should take into our account that this is a fairly new Movement.

Politicians-militarization: Jacque Fresco states that “politicians do nothing except to tell the people what they want to hear”. Based on Michael Moore’s film “Capitalism a Love Story“, the politicians, especially in the US, do little or nothing as everything is controlled by the Wall Street stock market. How many times we have seen politicians claiming “the recession is over”, “we have passed the worst” but at the same time the unemployment rates are rising up more and more? On the other hand, militarization is needed for the gun industry which is one of the most profitable world business. Therefore we can understand that militarization cannot stop under the current monetary system.

Marxism-communism: I would not consider Fresco’s statements about communism really valid. As I have outlined in the previous article, we should distinguish the differences between Marxism (socialism, communism) and the Soviet regime. Consequently it is unfair to call a system corrupt which actually has never been implemented.

Architecture: This is the most interesting topic of the whole VP project. I fully agree that the architects should not be focused only on designing beautiful buildings but also resistible to earthquakes, flooding, fires etc… Millions die every year from earthquakes or other natural disasters. Haiti, L’Aquila and China are some tragic examples that should never be repeated again in the human history. Indeed, we have the resources and the potential to protect ourselves from nature’s wrath!

The collapse of the system: Jacque Fresco believes that people have to loose confidence to the current monetary system and that may happen only if the recession will deepen. What about those who feel satisfied living in a conservative pro-Media world, the vast majority who do not want to change themselves, neither the next generations of them will embrace the idea of “a change”? As the history clearly shows, when the economy declines, all these conservatives who are brainwashed by the capitalist propaganda, do nothing more than considering others responsible for their troubles. (Immigrants and minorities are always used as scapegoats in times of economic depression). Therefore it is futile waiting for things to get worse in order to see supporting alternative ways of living (such like the Zeitgeist). Of course this Depression will result that some people will open up their eyes and see the truth but a great percentage not only won’t lose confidence to capitalism but they will do everything possible to maintain the status quo. In fact, we see conservative right wing parties gaining power in almost every country.

Who decides? It seems like this is the key question. If we abolish the state, no leaders, no courts, no police, no army, who will be in the position to take decisions for what the society needs to be done? Who can identify what the people really need? Of course high technology can provide us useful solutions but what is going to happens if all those machines will get someday under malicious people’s command?

It is important also to understand that technology should be designed in an anthropocentric form and more important that people should be taught to help one another and understand why it is important to live in solidarity.

What really can be done for those who don’t want to change their lives? What we can do with those who proudly support that this system might be flawed system but it is still better than any alternative? Of course violence is not a solution. Violence can bring negative results as it is another form of oppression, but on the other hand it is inevitable sometimes, because absolute pacifism does not create motivations at all. A continuous anti-propaganda in a form of activism is also essential.

A political movement: Jacque Fresco states that setting up a political party, trying to promote things via the Media system could require astronomical amount of money. This is true and also there is no guarantee of success as the establishment would not want to promote something that moves against its interests. Thanks to technology we have the chance to use the internet as an alternative way of promoting new ideas. We don’t need more politicians therefore…

The outcome: I would definitely suggest the ZM to anyone despite its significant deficiencies. Why should humans keep on doing health destructive jobs like digging in mints, working with metals that produce toxic gases?… We can protect our homes, our lives from all the natural disasters, we can use cleaner energy, healthier and more effective… but I don’t think the VP has really a long way to go…

Most of the people know nothing about the VP. The vast majority does not want it because they think it is an utopia claiming that capitalism is inevitable. Also, think how the mainstream media brainwash the masses to believe that capitalism is the only way (Check out Noam Chomsky, this book and this). Check back in history also, what has happened during sessions of economic depression? Who paid the price?Who has been used as a scapegoat for all the troubles of the society? In order to attract people, as I said, the VP needs a continuous anti-propaganda in the form of activism. Study also anarcho-mutualism (economic theory), a third way system between anarcho-individualism and anarcho-communism. I think that it might be a good idea for the transition from capitalism to a moneyless economy.

When the masses of people see that the capitalistic society we live in, is flawed, only then we might begin the transition to the Venus Project society model. The transition will not be easy. It’s going to take a global effort. The 1st thing we should do is get the particapation of all the great scientist, engineers, computer programmers of the world to come together. 2nd free every one in society of all there debt. Next a national brodcast to all citizens of all nations to remain calm. 4 Volunteers will set up a food distrubution center, for food and water delivery or pickup. The 5th phase would be to setup a supercomputer and to collect an inventory of all the Earth’s available resources.

I dont think that the ZM has significant deficiencies. Thay can’t have a specific plan of action for the transition because there cannot be one, because things change rapidly and a plan cannot be put forward. The definitely don’t support revolutionary transition, with arms etc. they want to to happen as peacfully as possible… If we don’t agree with some parts of the ZM we shoudl propose alternatives and not only say that we don’t like this or that
